Hurricane Alert
The 2009 Hurricane season is in full swing and we wanted to share with our customers some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding CenterPoint Energy's preparedness plans should we be faced with another hurricane.
Two key points to be aware of are:
1. Customers should be prepared to be without electricity for an extended period while CenterPoint Energy works to make repairs and restore service (per guidelines in Question #3). This is extremely important, especially for customers who rely on electricity for life-sustaining equipment.
2. CenterPoint Energy will not be able to be precise about when their respective service will be restored.

MEMO:
To our Valued Customers:
We would like to notify you of the following:
We have, up to this point, been billing your account based on a discount off of the Con-Ed monthly supply charge. This price was based on an approximation of the monthly charges for the cost of electricity and included charges unrelated to the current market. This has caused extreme fluctuation in your monthly price.
Effective July 1, 2008, we will be moving to an hourly charge which is a more accurate reflection of your usage vs. the actual cost of electricity. This price will be similar to the Con-Ed Rider M tariff (which Coned has already phased in for its larger customers, with a plan to include smaller customers eventually.) YOU WILL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE A SALES TAX SAVINGS ON THE DELIVERY PORTION OF YOUR BILL AS WELL AS A DISCOUNT OFF OF THIS PRICING STRUCTURE.
As the market continues to fluctuate, we also offer (and recommend) the option of locking in your rate for terms of up to 5 years. As such, you would be protected from the extreme volatility that we have recently seen in the market.
Looking forward to serving your needs,
Steve Lichtenstein,
Director of Operations
